Latter-day Saints Donate 40,000 Pounds of Goods to East Texas Food Bank

The East Texas Food Bank recently received a significant boost in its fight against hunger, thanks to a generous donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church contributed 40,000 pounds of essential goods to support the food bank’s mission of alleviating hunger in the community.

David Emerson, CEO of East Texas Food Bank, expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting its importance, especially during the challenging summer months when quality food products are often scarce. The donation included a variety of items such as pasta, vegetables, peanut butter, and essential household products like laundry and soap detergent.

The East Texas Food Bank, serving as a central hub for food distribution across 26 counties, has benefited from the church’s support multiple times in recent years. Daren Yeager, president of the East Texas Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, noted that this marks the fourth truckload of donations from the church to the food bank.

The church’s involvement extends beyond monetary and food donations. Recently, its youth participated in an area-wide service project and regularly volunteer at mobile distribution events. This latest contribution is particularly timely, helping to meet increased demand from families affected by recent storms.

The partnership between the food bank and the church has been growing stronger, with the latter receiving a Hunger Hero award last year for their volunteer service. Emerson praised the church’s multifaceted support, which includes not only food donations but also regular volunteer work.

As East Texas continues to grow, so does the presence and influence of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reflecting a commitment to community service and addressing local needs.

The East Texas Food Bank continues its mission to fight hunger and feed hope, partnering with various organizations and relying on donations and volunteers. Those interested in supporting their efforts can find more information at www.easttexasfoodbank.org.
