Ammoron (Alma 52:3) was the brother of Amalickiah, the previous Lamanite king. After Amalickiah was killed by Teancum (Alma 51:34), one of Captain Moroni’s commanders, Ammoron was appointed as the new king over the Lamanites.
As the new Lamanite king, Ammoron worked to maintain control over the Nephite cities that his brother Amalickiah had previously captured (Alma 52:4). He also continued to harass the Nephites in an attempt to gain further territory (Alma 52:13).
The Nephite armies, led by Moroni, Teancum, and Lehi, engaged Ammoron’s forces in a major campaign to regain control of the lost Nephite cities (Alma 62:25,32). This resulted in a “running battle” (Alma 62:32) between the Nephite and Lamanite armies that ended near the land of Moroni by the seashore.
Determined to end the conflict, Teancum stole into the Lamanite camp at night with the intention of killing Ammoron, just as he had killed Amalickiah earlier (Alma 62:35). Teancum succeeded in killing Ammoron, but was detected and killed by Lamanite soldiers before he could escape (Alma 62:36).
In summary, Ammoron was the Lamanite king who succeeded his brother Amalickiah, and he continued the Lamanite war efforts against the Nephites until he was killed by Teancum in a daring nighttime raid (Alma 52:3, 51:34, 52:13, 62:25,32,35-36).
