A Utah man convicted in a case involving the assault and stalking of a sister missionary near Temple Square is expected to be released later this year.
Nathan Yudnich, 41, is currently scheduled for release on Sept. 28, 2026, following the resolution of charges connected to the incident in Salt Lake City.
Yudnich ultimately pleaded no contest to one count of stalking. Three additional stalking charges were dismissed as part of the agreement, according to information from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
The resolution resulted in a Class A misdemeanor conviction and also included a criminal stalking injunction designed to provide continued protection for the victims.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, the injunction was developed with input from attorneys representing the victims as well as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Under the terms of the injunction, Yudnich is prohibited from contacting the victims and is restricted from entering certain properties owned by the Church. Violating those restrictions could result in additional criminal charges.
The case has drawn particular concern because it involved a sister missionary serving near Temple Square, one of the most recognizable and heavily visited locations associated with the Church.
Missionaries are sent throughout the world to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve communities, often spending much of their day interacting with strangers in public places. Incidents such as this are a sobering reminder of the importance of protecting missionaries and taking threats, harassment, and stalking seriously.
While Yudnich’s criminal case has reached a resolution, the stalking injunction is intended to continue providing boundaries and protection after his release.
For Latter-day Saints, the hope is that missionaries can fulfill their callings in peace and safety as they devote a season of their lives to serving the Lord and those around them.
